A new book by transpersonal psychologist James Fadiman examines the historical use of psychedelic drugs as well as their possible psychotherapeutic applications for "a host of serious medical conditions." The soft science of transpersonal psychology has been seen by some as a backdoor method of legitamizing psychedelic research, although I suspect the somewhat nebulous field will have difficulty gaining credibilty among mainstream scientists with its focus on "inner empiricism." Fadiman currently teaches at The Institute for Transpersonal Psychology and is a former president of The Institute for Noetic Sciences.
